How to use LT’s On-line Real Time Bus Tracker From LebanonTransit.org, click on the icon for the Real-Time Bus Status. Once in the On-line Real Time Bus Tracker, the page will open up into a screen which is divided into two sections. One section lists LT’s bus routes, the other section shows a map of the Lebanon (see Figure A).
To find out information about your bus route, simply click on your route in the list on the left side of the screen. Once a route has been selected, the map will automatically center on the route itself. The box on the left side of the screen will switch to a list of all the stops on that route (see Figure B). You can always change the zoom of the map using either the navigation aid in the upper left corner of the map or using the scroll wheel of your computer mouse. To go to a different route, simply click on the “Routes” tab in the menu on the left side of the screen to return to the list of LANTA bus routes.
On the map, you will see red bus icons which show the current location of the bus or buses that are right now operating trips on your selected route (see Figure C).
If you click on the red bus icon, a window will appear (see Figure D) which shows the status of the bus (late, on-time, etc.), the last reported bus stop passed by the bus and the trip direction the bus is currently operating. The bottom of the window shows the exact time the information about that bus was updated which is typically every 60 to 90 seconds.
Bus Stops: You can find information about your bus stop two ways. First, you will see small gray circles along the route on the map. Each of these gray circles represents a LT bus stop. If you click on one of these circles, a window will appear which shows the bus stop name and bus stop number (see Figure E). The window also shows the next few scheduled departure times (SDT) for that stop for the selected route.
Please note that only the times for the posted time points for the route are the actual schedule times (see the schedule for your route to find out the posted time points); scheduled times for bus stops in between time points are calculated based on the average scheduled running speed of the bus between the two closest time points. Therefore, the bus may arrive in a window of a few minutes before or after the SDT shown. Also included are the estimated departure times (EDT) for each of the next trips to serve that bus stop. This estimated time is based on the most recent status update of the bus operating that trip. That is, if the most recent update showed that the bus is running 3 minutes late, the EDT will be 3 minutes later than the SDT.
To found out departure information for other routes which serve that specific bus stop, click on “Click For More” in the lower left hand corner of the window (see Figure E).
Remember, bus stops for both directions of travel are shown on the map (for example, bus stops for both the eastbound and westbound trips). Most stop names will have a small “e”, “w”, “n” or “s” at the end. These indicate that the stop is located along the eastbound, westbound, northbound or southbound travel lane of the road, respectively. You don’t need a compass to figure out which stop to use, the letters are just there to help you differentiate the bus stop locations. If you click on a particular bus stop with an “e” on the end but the destination for the trips listed are all in the opposite direction that you want to travel, then you will know that you need to find the same stop name with the “w” on the end.
You can also select a stop from the list of stops for your route which are listed on the left side of the screen in the blue box (see Figure F). Stops are shown in alphabetical order and not in the order in which they are located along the route. Clicking on a stop in the section will make the map automatically center on the stop, and will show the window with upcoming departures from that stop. In the list you will see the “e”, “w”, “n” or “s” at the end of most stop names – again, these letters provide an indication of the side of the street on which the stop is located (see above for a more complete explanation).
To go to a different stop, simply click on the stop name in the list or the gray circle for that stop on the map.
See? It's easy! And smart too! Now go dazzle your friends and show them how easy it is!
